Volunteers are highly valued as part of our organisation. We have a team of volunteers who are passionate about supporting women who may have needs surrounding mental health, domestic abuse and sexual abuse. Our volunteers bring energy, enthusiasm and wide ranging skills to build the capacity in our services. Women with lived experience bring a vital understanding and an extra dimension to our work and what we can achieve. Without volunteers, some of our most important and effective services would not be able to operate.

All our volunteers help to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable women. Volunteers receive transferrable initial and on-going training, especially relating to the nature of, and working with, this client group. The organisation also takes part in various awareness events and activities which as a volunteer you will also be offered the opportunity to get involved with. You will also be invited to volunteer socials and we run information events where staff give talks about our different services, e.g. our safe houses, self harm services, domestic abuse support programmes.

Volunteer story – Annabel

‘I volunteered with Missing Link for a year while I was studying. I wanted to volunteer to gain experience for a future career in psychology and also because of my strong belief in the importance of women’s services.

I’ve found the role interesting and intellectually challenging – there’s never a dull day which I really liked. Taking calls from service users was the most rewarding element; being able to offer help to someone who’s taken the courage to reach out in a time of need feels amazing.

The role gave me great experience interacting with service users, as well as an in-depth understanding of the mental health, homelessness and domestic abuse services available in Bristol. Thanks to this, and my desire to be involved in support after the initial call, I applied for a job with Missing Link and was successful! I’m really thankful I became a volunteer as the role has set me on the career path I’ve been aiming for.’
